Droughts in South Korea, 2018
This summer, South Korea suffered from a severe drought. This one was the biggest in recent 46 years. Because of the climate change, rain spell ended earlier than the average. Also, series of typhoons; PRAPIROON, RUMBIA, SOULIK, TRAMI, and KONG-REY didn’t hit the land. Therefore, accumulated precipitation for a month (July.12 to Aug.12) was 32.9mm. Comparing to the average accumulated precipitation which is 273mm, it only takes about 13%.
Drought in Australia
In the New South Wales(NSW), Australia, there were less than 10mm of precipitation in July. As farmers had a problem with growing crops, the government allowed them to shoot the kangaroos. Also, there are some worries that as ranchers try to sell their domestic animals, it might hurt the livestock industry in Australia. The researcher team in the University of Melbourne expects that this drought will be the harshest drought ever.
